    SkyView v0.0.15 - GNSS Height Separated from Barometric Altitude

    A small follow-up release with one decoding fix and one packaging fix.

    Decoding

    • ADS-B GNSS height (TC 20-22) no longer overwrites barometric altitude. Airborne position messages with type codes 20-22 carry GNSS height above the WGS84 ellipsoid, which can differ from barometric altitude by several hundred feet. The decoder stored it in the same field as barometric altitude, so aircraft reporting both could jump in altitude.
      • GNSS height now goes to GeomAltitude.
      • The displayed altitude stays barometric whenever a barometric value has been received, and falls back to GNSS height only for aircraft that report nothing else. This is the same rule already used for VRS sources.

    Note on the encoding

    Decoders disagree on how the TC 20-22 altitude field is encoded:

    • dump1090-fa and readsb: the same 25 ft coding as barometric altitude
    • pyModeS and "The 1090 Megahertz Riddle": plain metres

    SkyView follows dump1090-fa and readsb, the decoders it is validated against. The metres reading caps at 4,095 m (13,435 ft), which cannot represent aircraft at cruise altitude. TC 20-22 messages are rare: none appeared in a 5-minute capture from the test receiver, so this change has not been verified against live data.

    Packaging

    • Debian changelog fixed. /usr/share/doc/skyview-adsb/changelog.gz now lists only each release's own commits. The v0.0.13 and v0.0.14 packages listed the 20 most recent commits of the whole history under the newest version.
